Most people are not prejudiced. Surveys show that well over 75% of our population
do not consider themselves to be racist. Research has shown that those who
identify themselves as low in prejudicial beliefs still discriminate.

6.There are inexpensive methods of managing prejudicial behavior. There
are ways of managing prejudicial behavior that cost next to nothing.
Additional information:
In the April 1993 issue of Training and Development, John Dovidio reported
some results of leadership behavior in reducing prejudices. In one corporation,
the CEO simply asked that his senior management discuss what they were
doing in the area of equal opportunity. That was all he did, and by the
next quarter there had been a significant increase in both the promotion
rate and the hiring rate of women and minorities.
Dovidio also reported in the same article that the Army had only rarely
promoted women and minorities at the same rate as the overall rate of
promotion. Since the goal was announced to promote minorities and women
at an equal rate to the overall promotion rate, it has been met on a consistent
basis.

7. We are not all treated equally under the law. Discrimination has been
a long standing part of our court system.
Additional information:
To quote the Amnesty International web page:
"Racism - There is "a pattern of evidence indicating racial
disparities in the charging, sentencing, and imposition of the death penalty"
according to a 1990 United States Government report. An overwhelming majority
of death row efendants since 1977 were executed for killing whites despite
the fact that whites and blacks are victims of murder in approximately
equal numbers. In Texas, for example, blacks found guilty of killing whites
were found to be six times more likely to receive the death penalty than
whites convicted of killing whites."
