9. Spanking a child has a great deal to do with racism and other forms of prejudicial behavior.

Additional information:
The prejudicial style of behavior which is linked to or associated with physical punishment is not directed toward a specific group of people but toward those who are safe targets and so racism is very common among people who have been physically punished as children.

11. Those who are in positions of authority can do a great deal to reduce prejudices within the ranks of an organization. They often have more leverage with those who are strongly prejudiced than they might realize.

Additional information:
In the April 1993 issue of Training and Development, John Dovidio reported some results of leadership behavior in reducing prejudices. In one corporation, the CEO simply asked that his senior management discuss what they were doing in the area of equal opportunity. That was all he did, and by the next quarter there had been a significant increase in both the promotion rate and the hiring rate of women and minorities.

Dovidio also reported in the same article that the Army had only rarely promoted women and minorities at the same rate as the overall rate of promotion. Since the goal was announced to promote minorities and women at an equal rate to the overall promotion rate, it has been met on a consistent basis.

12. Being strongly prejudiced has much to do with a personīs intellectual functioning and ability to make other types of judgments.

Additional information:
There appears to be a rigidity in the style of perceiving for those who are strongly prejudiced. They seem to hold on to perceptions and be slow to move on to new perceptions. They also seem to more influenced by their expectations and less able to see things which do not conform to those expectations.
